Combine Adventure with Heritage Exploration!
There are many heritage structures in our state that represent priceless heritage and invaluable architecture of the age gone by. The Bhongir fort in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana is one such massive impregnable structure erected by Chalukya ruler, Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI and the fort has been named after him. The history of Bhongir fort is traced back to the 10th century. Initially it was called Tribhuvanagiri, renamed later as Bhuvanagiri and eventually it has become Bhongir Fort. The town of Bhuvanagiri/Bhongir derives its name from this splendid fort, which stands on a monolithic rock, about 800 feet high.
It is spread across an impressive area of 50 acres over the top of an enormous rock formation. It resembles an unusual egg-shaped structure along with two main entry points that are in turn covered with huge rocks. There are ruined palaces, gateways, tanks, secret pathways etc. inside the fort. It is considered as one of the earliest forts in the Deccan region. After scaling the highest point, the Bhongir fort offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire region.
Visitors here can find an impressive collection of armoury, stables, trap doors and other relics of historical interest. Telangana Tourism organizes trekking activities for adventure seekers at this historic fort. The ideal location of the fort, the availability of right infrastructure and the enthusiastic participation of people has made this fort a popular destination for adventure where different trekking clubs from all over conduct adventure activities regularly. Especially during weekends, it is fun to visit and explore these activities.
