Tracing its Existence to Ramayana Era
Telangana is home to many renowned spiritual and mythological destinations and one such rural hamlet where the great Hindu epic of Ramayana can be traced is Parnasala. Parnasala is a small village located close to the holy town of Bhadrachalam in the state of Telangana. It is now part of the newly carved Bhadradri-Kothagudem district. According to the legend, Lord Rama had spent some part of his fourteen years of exile at this place.
The little stream here is believed to be a testimony to the belief that Sita, wife of Lord Shri Ram, took her bath in the stream, and hence the place is called Sita Vaagu. Another story which narrates the history of this village is that Maricha Rakshasa was killed by Lord Shri Ram at this same place when he arrived in disguise in the form of a golden deer to deceive Goddess Sita. A visit to Parnasala can be best described as a spiritually rejuvenating experience, where one can witness ancient history of the Dandakaranya region. Parnasala is therefore a popular heritage spot near Bhadrachalam. It is believed to be the place where the King of Lanka, Ravana had abducted Goddess Sita. This place depicts this part of the epic Ramayana by exhibiting the primary events in the form of beautifully canvassed sculptures of Rama, Sita, Laxmana as well as Ravana. It is noteworthy to find the famous temple of Sita Ramachandraswamy also located close by at Bhadrachalam.
The Bhadrachalam-Parnasala tourist circuit is very popular as the region has been a witness to important events related to Hindu epic of Ramayana and this makes a visit to Parnasala all the more special and important. The mere sight of the historic hamlet, with an old stream passing by here, is considered a spiritually exhilarating experience for Hindus and other explorers of history, who arrive here to document important events of historical significance.
