Revered Vaishnava Kshetram of Yadadri
Religious sites always have a prominence of their own, with a unique legacy and identity. The state of Telangana is home to many renowned temples and historic places of worship. One such famous temple is the Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple at Yadagirigutta. It is a popular Hindu Temple devoted to Lord Narasimha Swamy, considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
It is situated over a hillock in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district of the state. Yadagirigutta is a unique and pleasant hillock that enjoys moderate climate in all seasons with thousands of devotees offering their vows, performing pujas, kalyanam, abhisekam etc. while there are thousands of pilgrims who throng the shrine during weekends, holidays and festivals.
According to legend, in Tretayugam, there was a sage called Yadarishi, son of the great sage Rishyasrunga and Santa Devi. He performed penance inside a cave with Anjaneya's blessings. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Narasimha had appeared before him in five different forms namely Sri Jwala Narasimha, Sri Gandabherunda, Sri Yogananda, Sri Ugra and Sri Lakshminarasimha. These later manifested into finely sculpted forms and hence this divine destination is considered as Pancha Narasimha Kshetram.
According to Skanda Purana, there is a cave temple of Lord Vishnu where once the invincible Sudharshna chakra moved in the direction like a compass guiding them towards this temple. At this shrine, Aaradhana and Puja are performed according to PancharatraAgamam. In 15th Century, the Vijayanagara ruler, Sri Krishnadevarayalu had mentioned about this temple in his autobiography that before going to war he always visited the temple, praying the lord for victory.
The temple is highly revered in Telangana region and is currently undergoing a major revamp, in its new form as Yadadri. There are massive pillars, gopuram, sculptures and other mythological idols being erected, in tune with the great history and legacy of the shrine. The temple town has facilities for accommodation of pilgrims while many tonsure their heads after fulfillment of a wish.
Surendrapuri, located near Yadagirigutta is known for its wonderfulmythological museum. Also known as the Mythological Awareness Center,it was established to create awareness regarding Hindu mythology.Kunda Satyanarayana established this museum, which is also calledKunda Satyanarayana Kala Dhamam. The museum features full sizedreplicas of many Hindu temples in India while the sculptures andpaintings depict stories from Hindu epics.
