Pillalamarri
Telangana state is home to many heritage destinations which dot the whole landscape covering all the ten districts of the state and Telangana Tourism is leaving no stone unturned to promote these destinations.
Pillalamarri located around 3 Kilometers from the Mahaboobnagar District head quarters is home to an age-old Banyan tree which is a major tourist attraction. It is located about 90 Kilometers away from Hyderabad. Nature has always surprised man with its marvelous creations and the great Banyan trees at Pillalamarri is one such brilliant stoke of Mother Nature. The tree continues to attract many people and is approximately 700 years old.
It has reportedly got the name Pillalamarri since it is spread over a vast area with a lot of branches. Due to the presence of scores of branches, the main trunk of the tree is not clearly visible from a distance. India is home to atleast three centuries old Banyan Trees and Pillalamarri is one among them.
The tree is a special attraction for the visitors arriving in Mahaboobnagar district. In order to cater to the increased popularity, the tourism department along with the Department of Archeology has even established a small museum centre here where several statues and sculptures are displayed. This place is also of great spiritual significance because an ancient Shiva Temple that had been submerged under the Srisailam Project was relocated here. Other attractions at Pillalamarri include mini zoo with animal parks and Bird Park. It is located close to the Hyderabad-Bangalore National Highway.
