Ramgiri Khilla (Karimnagar)
Vikarabad is an important town in the district of Ranga Reddy district in Telangana. It is one of the most sought after destinations for adventure journey.
Karimnagar has a rich legacy of ancient times. It has many heritage monuments across its area. Ramagiri Fort, which is also called Ramgiri Killa is one of them. This fort is located on the top of a beautiful hillock, dotted with greenery.
When you are on the ground and look at the fort, it looks as if nature has worn a crown on a crest. The fort is surrounded by greenery, which imparts it a majestic look. Atop the hill, you can take a glance of the panoramic view of rivers Godavari and Manair, which is a tributary of the Godavari.
The fort is close to village Begumpet in Kamanpur mandal. It is said to have been built by the Kakatiya rulers of Warangal. It came under the rule of Qutub Sahi Sultanate (1518–1687). The British acquired the fort in 1791.
The fort was built from stone and spans over an area of many square kilo metres. The fort has bastions that are octagonal in shape. It has been equipped with forge-welded cannons on the battlements erected to height of 12 metres as part of fort walls.
The forest around the fort is rich in medicinal species of plants. Research shows that there are 150 types of diverse medicinal plants widely used in ayurveda.
The rich greenery that abounds the hillock and the insignia intact of erstwhile rulers make this heritage spot worth visiting.
How to reach
Ramgiri Khilla stands on the Karimnagar – Manthani highway at distance of village Begumpet, and 60 km away from Karimnagar town, which is about 160 km away from Hyderabad.

The fort is open all days of the week between 10:00 am to 05:00 pm.
