Spiritual Significance of Mahankali
Devotion towards religion and gods has always been part of our personal belief system. Hinduism is an ancient religion, with millions of followers all over the world, especially in South Asia with the faithful worshipping many gods and goddesses, right from thousands of years. In particular, Durga Devi or Kali Maata is considered the mother of all goddess. Sri Ujjaini Mahakaali Temple is a popular temple devoted to Goddess Mahakaali (or Mahankali) in Secunderabad area of Telangana.Devotees offer their prayers to the goddess every day at this 194-year old temple.
History
According to legend, in the year 1813, a Military Battalion was transferred to Ujjaini in North India. This was a time in the history of the region, marked by deadly Cholera outbreak where it is believed that thousands of people had perished. SuritiAppaiah who was part of the Military Battalion along with his fellow associates visited the shrine of Mahakali Devasthanam at Ujjaini and offered prayers that if the people were saved from this epidemic, they would be installing the idol of Mahakaali at Secunderabad.
Promptly upon his return from Ujjaini, Sri SuritiAppaiah and his associates fulfilled their vow, by installing the idol of Goddess Mahakaali, made of wood at Secunderabad in the month of July, 1815. During the construction of sanctum sanctorum, a stone idol of Manikyalamma was reportedly found, which was also installed beside Sri Mahakaali Ammavaru.Sri SuritiAppaiah later developed the temple with the help of philanthropists, devotees and the temple was eventually taken over by the endowments department after independence.
Religious Significance

How to Reach
Sri Ujjaini Mahakaali Temple is located at a distance of about 2 km from Secunderabad Railway station. Many prefer to walk from the heart of Secunderabad to the revered Hindu shrine, as it is located close by. It is located about 10 km from MGBS, from where there are regular buses to Secunderabad Railway station
