Mancherial District was carved out of erstwhile Adilabad District. It is surrounded by Asifabad (Komuram Bheem), Adilabad, Nirmal, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Bhoopalapally districts and the Maharashtra state. Mancherial district boasts of the crocodile sanctuary near Chennur and thick forest under a part of the Kawal Tiger Reserve.

Gandhari Khilla

Gandhari Khilla (Gandhari Kota) is a hill fort located near Bokkalagutta, in Mandamarri Mandal in Mancherial district. It is located on the sand rock hills. The fort was built within a thickly forested area which has a wealth of plant species which includes many medicinal herbs. The fort has not been fully excavated and is still partially covered by forest. Mahankali Jatara is conducted every year which attracts thousands of people.

Gandhari maisamma jatra is organized in the fort once in every two years and tribal people from Vindhya region take part in it. The Mancherial – Bellampally highway passes close to the fort, which is 3 kilometres away from the Bokkalagutta village. Gandhari Maisamma temple is located within the fort.

Gudem Gutta Satyanarayana Swami Temple

Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple Gudem Gutta is a popular temple place in Mancherial District. Many pilgrims visit this place during ‘Karthika Masam’ to have a holy dip in Godavari River and perform “Satyanarayana Vratam/Puja”.
