Located on the banks of the holy river Godavari that draws a border line between both Karimnagar and Adilabad districts, is the Satyanarayana Swami Temple. The temple is dedicated to Sri Satyanarayana Swamy, who is believed to be the God of truth. The temple is located in Gudem. Gudem is a village located at about 40 km from Mancherial city of the Adilabad district. The temple since the time of its inception has garnered prominence in Telangana, owing to the existence of Lord Satyanarayana Swamy, who is considered to be the most powerful god by the people of Telangana. The temple holds the same esteem as Annavaram Devasthanam, which is one of the most famous religious shrines of India and a very significant part of ancient Temples of the Telangana region.
The Gudem temple is also known as the Annavaram of Telangana. It witnesses maximum pilgrim patronage during the Karthika Masam. Karthika Masam occurs during the English months of October – November. Scores of devotees throng the village to take a dip in the Godavari River and perform a very big puja and make their offerings at the Satyanarayana Swami temple. Many devotees perform 'Satya Narayana Vratham', which is a special puja indicating devotion and importance of the Lord. On every full-moon day, devotees reaching the gathering offer many pujas. The temple also has Lord Ayyappa Abhinava Shabarimala temple built on the lines of the great Sabarimala temple in Kerala.
