Large manmade lakes are a testimony to the efforts of our rulers in historical times. Take a stroll across the lake’s boulevards on a pleasant evening and it is when you notice the cool breeze smoothly caressing your senses welcoming you to this place. The tank bund is dotted with elegant statues of eminent historic personalities such as Nannayya, Tikkana, Molla, Sri Sri, Jashua, Annamayya, Tyagayya, Vemana Errana, Rudramma, and Pingali Venkaiah greeting you warmly. The Tank Bund, which is the dam/embankment to the Hussain Sagar, serves as the link between the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It was built by Hazrat Hussain Shah, and today it is a major tourist attraction. A monolithic statue of the Buddha installed with pain staking efforts in the heart of this lake is an added charm. The lake was excavated in the year1562 A.D. by Hussain Shah Wali during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah, the promenade of which is now a busy thoroughfare. Boating and water sports are a regular feature in the Hussain Sagar Lake. It is a large manmade lake of Hyderabad and was constructed on a small tributary of the Musi River. It is a sprawling lake that holds water in all seasons. The Department of culture organizes cultural programmes here regularly.
Buddha Statue
A monolithic Buddha statue, which is 16 meter tall and weighs 350 tonne (approx.) was installed in the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake, which is brilliantly silhouetted against the sunset. It is entirely made of white granite and finds place among the tallest statues of the world.
Water Sports
Boating and other water sports are a common feature at Hussain Sagar including regular yachting and activities by sailing clubs. The annual regatta here draws many sports persons from all over the country. Telangana tourism provides facilities like 48 seater Launch etc, speedboats, and motor boats. Starlit dinners and private parties are arranged on the Launch after prior booking.

Close to the Hussain Sagar Lake, you can visit other tourist spots like Lumbini Park, enchanting Birla Mandir, Snow world, NTR gardens and Planetarium. You can take a ride on your vehicle or a lengthy stroll on necklace road, which enhances the beauty of the Hussain Sagar Lake. The ancient and revered shrine of Katta Maisamma, which means goddess of the dam, located here attracts many devotees. The lake is also the spot where annual Ganesh immersion happens with religious fervor. Many events are organized by government, private and corporate sector on the lakeshore regularly. Now it also has a popular multiplex theater close by, called Prasad’s.
