The Sri Veerabhadra Swamy temple is in Bonthapally village, Jinnaram mandal of Medak, Telangana. The temple is also called Bonthapally Temple. It is about 40 kilometer from the state capital, Hyderabad. Several devotees from Hyderabad throng this Sri Veerabhadra Swamy Temple in large numbers during the Sravana masam.
As per the legend, many years ago the village housed only a small temple of Sri Veerabhadra Swamy. One night a shepherd walked past the temple and turned around after hearing something. The shepherd was shocked to see Lord Veerabhadra Swamy, who told him that he did not like the location of the temple and wanted it to be shifted. The God reportedly asked the shepherd to carry him on his shoulder to another location till he gets tired. Then the shepherd carried the lord to Bonthapally. After reaching this village, God reportedly asked the shepherd to go back home without turning back or he would become a statue. However, the shepherd did turn back and became a statue. This statue remains there in the village.
